ZTE Axon 30 Ultra official in Italy: Snap 888, 144 Hz and "monstre" camera

Today is the big day for ZTE, announcing the new ones with great fanfare. ZTE Axon 30 Pro and especially Axon 30 Ultra . The name "Ultra" is not wasted, since we are before a top of the range with all the trimmings. Let's start by saying: compared to what was estimated, the Axon 30 sees the abandonment of the selfie camera below the screen , for now. The impression is that the manufacturer has preferred to focus on more concrete products and fewer prototypes, in order to satisfy a wider audience.

Update 13/05: ZTE's super flagship also arrives in Europe and Italy, but only in the Ultra version. Find all the details on pricing and availability directly at the end of the article.

ZTE Axon 30 Pro and Axon 30 Ultra: all the news of the new top-of-the-range series

Design and visualization

There was some curiosity about the premium and around the display Series Axon 30 , which everyone expected to confirm the solution with the camera under the panel, but the brand has decided to change course, focusing on performance and thick components. At the level of dimensions, we learn that the Axon 30 Ultra is not a particularly pocket-sized model. The screen AMOLED HDR10 + 10-bit Brand Vision ox, curved , has a diagonal from 6.67 " with resolution Full HD + . Despite the large panel, we are still talking about a device with a thickness of 8 mm and a weight of 188 grams.

From a good top of the 2021 range, the Axon 30 Ultra also enjoys a 144Hz refresh rate , with 300Hz touch sampling. It is a unique solution tailored , therefore capable of dynamically varying depending on the context in which it is located. The scalability is not that of the LTPO screens, since it can vary in 4 steps: 60, 90, 120 and 144 Hz. The panel has a screen-to-body ratio of 95%, HDR10 support, identification sensor on the screen and protection Corning Gorilla Glass 5 (front and back).

Unsurprisingly, ZTE Axon 30 Pro offers a resized data sheet compared to its "big brother". Starting from the screen, same as the Ultra but with a refresh 120Hz rate and a flat panel one .

In terms of design, compared to the last generation, ZTE has opted for a new photo module based on important specifications. From the vertical camera of the Axon 20 we went to a more square and bulky module, necessary to accommodate sensors of greater caliber. The colors chosen for the Ultra model are also very interesting, with a vegan leather version.

And this design used for the Ultra model also appears similarly for the model. Pro , but with a slimmer body and slimmer camera bumper, which nevertheless brings it very close to the series ZTE S30 , which is focused on design.

Hardware

Being top of the range, even the ZTE Axon 30 series does not exempt itself from using Snapdragon 888 Qualcomm's , since both the Pro and the Ultra are equipped with it. The chipset has a 5 nm manufacturing process, a Kryo 680 CPU, octa-core up to 2.84 GHz and the Adreno 660 GPU. 4,600 mAh , with support for fast charging 66W for the Ultra version. For the Pro model, however, there is a unit 4,500 mAh with a recharge of 55W . For both, however, wireless charging is not provided.

The other confirmations refer to the presence of GB of RAM 8/12 LPDDR5 128/256 and GB of storage UFS 3.1 with a lot of support microSD . There is also support for WiFi 6E , as well as a cooling system steam room and dual-frequency GPS. The company also confirms the presence of a stereo speaker , NFC and 3 microphones, presumably the main one, the noise reduction one and the audio zoom one when shooting with the camera. Complete the image MyOS 11 obviously on an basis Android 11 .

Thanks also to the potential of the ISP Snapdragon 888, ZTE Axon 30 Ultra has a photographic module called " Trinity ". But what does this definition mean? For the first time in the world, this smartphone has a quad camera with well- 3 sensors giving 64 MP . The main Sony IMX686 f / 1.6 sensor with OIS is accompanied by the 120 ° wide angle, the most resolute ever seen on a smartphone, and a sensor f / 1.9 by 35mm called " Super Human ". We don't know the exact details yet, but it should be a sensor depth . Undoubtedly a peculiar choice, since this type of sensor is usually pointed out as superfluous, but at this point we are curious to know what specific advantages it will give.

The fourth sensor is a periscopial telephoto that gives 8 MP 123 mm, equivalent to one Zoom Optical 5x . Based on the software component, the camera also guarantees 10x and 120x hybrid digital zoom. Among the multimedia creation modes we also find 8K videos at 30 fps, Super Night and Super Moon modes. Therefore, there is no camera for selfies on the screen, but one sensor of 16 MP embedded in the screen perforation .

And after having delved into the photographic sector of the superior solution, let's now move on to the one chosen for ZTE Axon 30 Pro . Being the smallest camera bumper, 4 sensors were inserted, but only 2 of these are 64 MP . Primary and wide angle are identical, but with them a sensor macro gives 5MP and one of 2 MP for acquiring depth .
