Manufacturing its own processors to power its new smartphones, tablets, laptops and data servers is the new challenge facing Huawei Technologies.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Intel Corporation would stop manufacturing microchips for the Chinese company due to the commercial veto interposed by the United States and that, in the first instance, blocked access to Google's cloud services.

The Chinese conglomerate's cell phones use the Kirin processor, developed by TSMC at the request of Huawei. When it comes to personal computers and data servers, Huawei uses processors on Arm and Xeon, from Intel Corporation.

The outlook becomes complicated for Huawei since TSMC also manufactures the chips for Qualcomm and MediaTek, two other options on the market and which are used by brands such as Samsung, LG and Motorola, among others, so you should think about starting to develop their own teams, as they have started to do with cloud services.

"Regarding TSMC and the Kirin processors, due to strategic brand issues, they will be announced in due time," said Andrea Corrales, Country Director of Huawei Terminals Costa Rica when asked about it by THE REPUBLIC.

The new challenge comes months after Huawei successfully developed and launched its own cloud services platform Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), to replace those of Google, the first US company forced to abide by US President Donald Trump's veto in this conflict.

The launch of these services, supported by its own App Gallery mobile application store , has been widely accepted in the world, where there are at least 100 apps already destined for the Costa Rican market, in addition to options for cloud storage services, server Email and streaming video player instead of Google's Drive, Gmail and YouTube.

For now, Huawei would have prepared with a significant reservation of the latest model of the Kirin 990 processor, in order to continue with the most recent high-end production the P40 family. It remains to be seen what will happen with the Mate 40, which is its business sector focused model.
